Sian Prime BA (Hons) FRSA

Sian is a trainer, facilitator, coach and consultant.  She has hands-on experience of running creative businesses as well as being a lecturer in arts and cultural policy and management. Knowledge gained from direct, industry-based experience combined with the learning benefits associated with her academic career ensure that all her work is highly context-specific and results focused. 

Sian has also worked for clients to create development strategies and delivery frameworks for a range of organisations across sub-regional, regional and national territories.  For example, she has worked for IIMB in Bangalore and nationally for the Arts Council England, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts and for the Cultural Enterprise Office, Scotland. She’s also worked within a number of sub-regions to deliver business advice, training and coaching for creative individuals and organisations. 
 
Sian developed the Cultural Enterprise Office in Scotland from its opening in 2001 to the time that it was ready to deliver its service, establishing the methodology for business advice and training that is still employed. She worked with the original Creative Pioneer Team at NESTA and was responsible for the content and delivery of The Academy – NESTA’s residential enterprise development programme for highly talented creative individuals, she has since developed the material for Insight Out and Starter for Six. 
 
In addition, Sian has developed work to support the development of the critical skills of funders and assessors, especially in connection to refining policy and improving the services they provide. Her main focus for this type of work has been in live and performing arts and art made by practitioners with disabilities sectors. 
 
Sian has also worked as a creative producer. Her most recent project was a collaboration with the Guangdong Modern Dance Company, the British Council, Visiting Arts and the Arts Council of England and was aimed at developing the critical and choreographic skills of both UK and China-based choreographers.  
 

Sarah Bucknall BA Hons

Sarah specialises in the design, production and management of Creative Projects and Services. She is a practicing visual artist with a range of project management, new media design, information architecture and business development experience both within the Creative Industries and for organisations playing roles in supporting creative projects. Sarah has much experience in the design, establishment and management of programmes supporting the Creative Industries. Her skills lie in being able to research, scope and implement systems that effectively support the creative process.

She is passionate about the role of the artist within organisations and within the public domain. Her approach is to create clear structures and frameworks for roles to thrive and diversify, adding value and meaning to projects through creative methodology. She has a thorough understanding of project management practice – timescales, budget planning, milestones and deliverables. She has a co-collaborative approach to working with artists and designers to establish both creative and practical briefs and deliverables.

Sarah often works in partnership with Siân Prime and they are currently working on the ‘Start’ initiative at Artworks-mk. Start supports the creative industries in Milton Keynes, and more recently, Rugby. Sarah and Siân share the role of business advisor, with Siân focusing on training content and delivery as well as the development of resources, and Sarah focusing on project management, information architecture, web construction, marketing and content delivery. Start was established in April 2005 and has recently acquired continuation funding to develop the service over a further 18 months. Part of Start’s current remit is to forge cross-regional links with other CI support organizations.

Sarah has recently worked with Knowle West Media Centre in Bristol as the project manager for their Keynote Project. She researched and designed a programme of activity focusing on the representation of young people, ensuring that planned activity added value to the organisation’s 5 year strategic plan. She developed and steered a fundraising strategy that has so raised over £120,000 for the organisation from Arts Council, Heritage Lottery Fund and Neighbourhood Renewal.

She has for the last year been on the Management Committee of Camberwell Arts, an Arts Charity based in South East London. As part of her involvement with this organisation Sarah undertook the re-design and development of their website. As part of this process she developed a Content Management System so that the organisation could take complete ownership of its online identity. As part of her contribution to the development of the management committee, she facilitated several strategic planning sessions that formed the basis for an organizational restructure.

Prior to this Sarah worked with the Creative Pioneer Team at NESTA where she managed a diverse portfolio of awardees for two years. She was responsible for establishing the programme’s approach to customer service, awards management, record keeping, and event organisation. She was undertook an extensive research report that looked into the need for specific kinds of business support for creative graduates that formed the basis for much of the programme which is now in its forth year of operation.

Before joining the Creative Pioneer Programme, Sarah worked freelance on a range of projects, including a role as researcher and web-editor with a dynamic Arts and Creative Industries consultancy based in Bristol.
 
In 2002 she worked for NESTA as Project Manager for a new in-house gallery area in order to showcase the activities of a selection of NESTA’s awardees for which she was responsible for a £100k budget. She commissioned and managed several ambitious site-specific art installations, including work by artists Simon Tegala and Franklyn Rogers. She also designed display material for the reception area and supervised its production. Prior to this Sarah had undertaken a range of administrative and coordination led roles for NESTA.
 
Sarah is an internet architect with extensive technical knowledge and design experience. She has been designing sites for a range of clients for the last four years.
